UNDER-14 MEN'S REPORTS, 2005-6 |

Solent Stars 64 Fortismere Hawks 43
It was hardly worth working on defence in training this week as the floor of the sports hall at Fortismere School was like an ice rink. It was impossible to play the pressure man for man defence that the Solent teams like to play, instead it was a matter of staying balanced and try for all that it was worth to keep your player away from the basket.
However there were still some nice plays by this young Solent team and although there is a long road ahead in their development you could see their potential.
Some good defensive work this week by Sam Chadwick and Tom Baldwin who made chances for our guards and big man Lewis Hendon John to convert mistakes by the home team into baskets.
It was nice to see Solents power houses Hendon John and the big Spencer Wells dominate the boards at both ends. For Coach Bev Guymon the encouraging aspect was Sam Dye , Louie Over and Luke Dismore hitting outside shots which proves that their confidence is growing with every game.
The Verrall Twins again worked tirelessly at both ends of the court and it was their speed and agility that helped Solent keep to their structure and run their offence when it was necessary.
Alex Horne came off the bench to have another solid game for Solent, ‘Mr Cool’ who just plays his game at both ends has continued to grow in confidence as have guards Brett Toogood from the Isle of Wight who had another good defensive game and young Ben McQueen from Cantell School who handle the ball well under pressure.
A special mention today of the twin towers Lewis Hendon John and Spencer Wells who are now beginning to work well with each other and understand each others game. A good all round performance…despite the floor!
