Solent Stars Under 14 Basketball Team are finally starting to put together some good plays on the basketball court which justifies the intensity of their training sessions over the past few weeks. Lewis Hendon John 6ft 2” from Cowes High School IOW was impressive on the fast breaks and took advantage under the boards and with the other big man for Solent 6ft 3” Spencer Wells dominating the defensive boards Solent were on a roll. However sloppy defence in the second quarter allowed Brentwood to keep with the Solent team and the half ended 29 –22.
The introduction of Brett Toogood and Sam Dye added the spark Solent needed to pull away, Toogood’s tenacity on the defensive end was contagious and the Solent Team started to play with intensity and passion, Alex Horne and Sam Chadwick worked solidly on the defensive end so that steals were converted into baskets by the Redbridge Twins Craig and Ryan Verrall who used their tremendous speed to their advantage on the fast break.
Captain Louie Over displayed excellent ball control when a full court press was put on and it was encouraging to see Guard Luke Dismore being able to penetrate the offensive key at ease and score. This young Solent team worked hard today to secure a comfortable win, a special mention for today’s game go to Lewis Hendon John, Spencer Wells and Louie Over.
