25/06/08 Giants Name Richards As New Head Coach As the new season approaches, a number of changes have taken place over the last few months for the Giants Senior men. Mansfield Giants are delighted to announce the appointed of Danny Richards as head coach for the forthcoming season after the departure of former coach Martin Richardson. Richards, who has been assistant coach and team captain for the last two seasons takes on the new role as well as continuing to make an important contribution on the court. Richards, a former England International has made it clear that he intends to make allot of changes and bring in almost a completely new squad. Richards commented ‘I believe we have under achieved for the last two seasons. I will be making a number of changes both on the court and off. I think a few of the players we have had in the past have not been right for the club, and this year we will be going for a more team approach using more local players.’ With the merge of the Giants, Stars and West Notts College, Richards has identified players from all three parties to make up this years side. Richards added ‘This is defiantly going to be a challenging season, but I have got allot of enthusiasm and ideas I will be implementing to ensure we build on last years performance. I can guarantee we will be very fast and exciting to watch. We started pre-season training at the beginning of June and there is a real good buzz around, so hopefully this will continue throughout the season’. In addition to the new coach, the Giants are in discussions with candidates to support Richards in the assistant position.
