Can you imagine Alex Ferguson commenting, before the first game of the season, "Well, I'm not sure who Arsenal have got this season ..."?.
So, how come nobody thought it strange when half of the BBL previews for last weekend contain comments of that nature?
With the new BBL season already under way, and the first round of the EBL National Cup upon us this weekend, there's still a huge difference in the information available about various teams - and I gather (from some of the comments on the "Off season goings on?" thread on "What's Bev ...") that I'm not alone in finding this not only strange but also extremely irritating.
To be fair there are a handful of clubs whose publicity is excellent. I can think of at least two, in the BBL, who issue regular updates, not just on player signings, but also on any issues that might affect the team. These clubs can, and do, make a story out of anything, from broken limbs to breaking wind (and don't I dread the morning mail after the team's been out for a curry ), but at least it keeps them, and the game, in the public consciousness.
Others, though, seem to treat any news about their team as requiring anyone who finds out about it having to sign the Official Secrets Act!
One of the worst (though by no means the only) offenders is PAWs London Capital (and I'm still wondering why the step into the BBL has caused them to become singular, as they were the "Capitals" up to last season).
