FINCH GETS A NURSE

NEWS INDEX

British Basketball has announced its members of staff for the senior and Under 20 men’s and women’s teams ahead of the summer’s campaigns.

Head coaches Chris Finch and Mark Clark respectively led the men’s and women’s teams to EuroBasket promotion last summer and in December their contracts were extended until the end of the 2009 programme.

Finch will be joined by Nick Nurse, who is currently the Head Coach of Iowa Energy, who play in the National Basketball Association (NBA) Development League.  Nurse has also coached for over a decade in Europe, including many successful years within the British Basketball League.

Meanwhile Clark’s assistant coach David Titmuss is a long-time high performance basketball coach, who recently spent eight years as the Head Coach and Performance Director with the Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association (GBWBA).

Earlier this year Tim Lewis and Sergio Lara-Bercial were appointed as the Head Coaches for the U20 men’s and women’s programmes and they will be joined by two of the longest serving British basketball players, Roger Huggins and Andrea Congreaves.

Both played important roles in last summer’s EuroBasket campaigns and will undoubtedly use their international expertise and experience to inspire future senior players.  Huggins retired from the sport at the age of 40 while Congreaves was the first Brit to play in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) in America and also won Commonwealth bronze with the England basketball team in Melbourne.

Ron Wuotila, British Basketball Performance Manager, said: “I am excited about the quality of the people coming on board for the 2008 campaign. Blending those individuals who have driven the success of the last two years with experienced and high potential coaches will provide our players with an even better environment in which to succeed this summer.

“I look forward to working with each of them over the coming months as our senior teams commence their EuroBasket Division A preparations and our U20’s get ready for the European Division B Championships.”
