SWIFTS LOOK FORWARD TO FOURTH TOURNAMENT

20/12/06

Southend Swifts are pleased to announce their fourth Annual Christmas Tournament on Wednesday 27th December at their home court at Greensward College in Hockley.  The event, which is the prefect way to get over the Yuletide excesses, will this season feature top English clubs as Swifts usual visitors, St Mirren from Scotland, are unable to make the trip due to international training camps for a number of their players.  Southend too will be without some of their own personnel for the same reason, but have sufficient resources to field a strong squad.

The tournament is based around a three team under 18 girls event. It will feature a London Select team and perennial Final Four entrants Northants Lightning, who are unbeaten so far this season and, like the hosts, have reached the semi final of the National Cup.  With Swifts having suffered just one defeat so far, this promises to be a very competitive event.  The day will also include games for Swifts under 14 boys team and a mixed under 13 side.

The event also has a new headline sponsor in the newly-opened Warehouse Store based in Chelmsford.  The store is the largest independent homeware superstore in the South East selling household accessories.  There is also support from The Livemore Partnership, a firm of Chartered Surveyors with offices in the East of England and Hosana Sportswear, who are involved as part of their community programme that provides top level basketball to British youth.

Swifts chairman Paul May said, "we are delighted to once again be staging our Christmas Tournament, which is always an excellent way to recover from the over-indulgances of the holiday season.  We are especially pleased to have the Warehouse as our main sponsor as well as the continuing support of The Livemore Partnership.  The involvement of the Hosana Organisation, as a pre-runner to their outstanding Hoopfest event to be held at Crystal Palace on the 28th December, gives added prestige to what Swifts are doing".
