East Durham Basketball Academy began as a development team under the guidance of Craig Lynch.
In 2003 they entered NBL Division 2 North (as it then was), and made an immediate impact, with Greg Modzelewski as player / coach. Coming strong in the second half of the season, they clinched the runners-up sport in the regional Division, and went on to reach the Championship Final.
With the rise of Team Northumbria as the top EBL3 team in the North-East, in 2005-6, and the departure, to Northumbria of Greg Modzelewski and many of their top players, East Durham finished last in EBL3 North, and did not renew their membership for the following season.
