There had been a Derby team playing League basketball since 1984, and they had been in the top division (NBL1 / BBL) from 1986 until their demise (actually they took a year's sabbatical leave, to find a new court, and a new enthusiasm, but if the club believed that - they were the only ones who did!) in 2002.
The club also had a second team, competing in NBL Division 3, until 2001, while the Under-20s, Under-18s and Under-16s played their games at Chellaston School.
It was from these feeder teams that the Trailblazers were born, in 2002, to ensure that National League basketball remained in Derby.
Won EBL3 North in 2005, and the Division 3 Championship, to gain promotion to EBL2.
Originally planned to play at the Rolls Royce Sports Hall, but eventually decided to return to Derby basketball's "spiritual home" at Moorways LC.
Consolidated during their first season in Division 2, and then won the title, in the closest league race ever, in 2007, thus gaining promotion to EBL1.

School, Bracknell Drive, Alvaston, Derby. A50 to South of Derby, and at J3 take A514 into Derby, past Chellaston School, for about ¾ mile. At crossroads with traffic lights, turn right into Bolton Lane. After 200yards, Bracknell Drive is on right. School is on the right after road bears left. |

By 2006 the Trailblazers had become an established club, with a strong development programme up to Under-18 level. They thus entered a second team, into the newly created EBL Division 4, finishing a creditable fifth in their first season.
The second season proved even better, as the Trailblazers' second string pulled off a stunning "treble" of the EBL Shield, the Midlands/South Division 4 title, and the Division 4 Championship. Promotion to Division 3 was the well-deserved result.
