HISTORY:

The original Bristol team were admitted to NBL Division 3 in 1999, winning the division (and Championship) in their second season. Under reorganisation, however, they found themselves still in the third-ranked NBL Division (albeit renamed Division 2, with the advent of the Conference), but winning promotion the following year, having won Div. 2 South (and narrowly lost the Play-off Final). At that point (2001), however, the team moved to become Team Bath Romans, and Bristol lost its senior NBL basketball representation.

The club continued to run an excellent youth programme, however, competing at NBL Junior and Cadet level, and in 2004 a new Bristol club was admitted to EBL Division 3 West, playing at the brand new City of Bristol Academy facility.

Direct links were forged with Filton College, which now has an accredited Basketball Academy, and the club were awarded 4 star club rating from EB. From 2005 the team played at the new £17 million sports and arts facilities at the College.

For that season there were two theoretically separate, teams playing in EBL3, with "Filton Flyers" being the newcomers. However, since they inherited the cream of the Bristol players, and since  the Flyers gained promotion to EBL2 in 2006, and renamed themselves Bristol Academy, it seems reasonable to see a continuation from Bristol Bombers, through Filton Flyers, to Bristol Academy I, and to count  Bristol Academy II as the "new" team in 2005.

After a reasonable season in 2005-6, they struggled the next year, and finished last having failed to win a game. Relegated to EBL4 in 2007.
